      Not sure about that. I have not looked at the 890. I need to post an update to this video, after two years this bike experienced the same issue again. Really nice video, your appreciation of this bike shines through. After getting rid of my T7, too tall for my 55yo wonky shoulder and knee, I'm considering one of these. I want a low tech mid weight adv. The only thing that's put me off in the past is the idea they might handle the twisties in much the same way my DRZ does rather than the better handling of the modern mid weights. Any thoughts, where does it lie on that spectrum? Thanks

    • @TRCAdventures
      @TRCAdventures Місяць тому

      Unfortunately these are also quite tall, depending on how much off road you do, there are some other options that are much lower, can handle some dirt roads and are masters in the Twisties. A Ducati hyperstrada, Honda's 500. As far as the f800 in the Twisties it's better than the drz but not as good the DRZ400SM That might be a fun option as it's much lower has great stiff forks and with some tkc80 tires can go anywhere!

    I owned one of these. The stereo was an option. It came as you showed, with a hole to slide in the radio. But you also had a small display that was on the lower left part of the dash that displayed the radio display. I ended up removing the antenna and the radio wiring. You end up with a nice glove compartment. Those "wizzy brakes", as many call them, are very important to have checked out. You have to bleed them with a specific technique that includes bleeding the unit itself. If that wasn't done regularly, you can get rust and damage in the unit requiring it to be rebuilt or replaced. The one place I know of that rebuilds them has a LONG wait. You can also remove the system and just run the hoses direct to the calipers, but you will lose your ABS. If you buy a high mileage one (over 50,000 miles) make sure the clutch isn't slipping. That's a major job to replace the clutch and it's an automotive style dry clutch. Same goes for the rear main seal. If you see any weeping of oil around that area, factor that into the price. Otherwise...these are bullet proof bikes that will run for a long time. Not unusual to see BMW boxers with well over 100,000 miles and still running strong.

      My initial response would be no, and try and find a 2009 or newer RT. The problem with the older bikes is, they have a brake assist system that will fail at some point the fix is likely more expensive than the bike, though more and more people have bypassed the system making them reliable and easy to maintain, in that case yes!

    I just bought a 2004 VTX 1300 with less than 20k miles on it. Yes, you read that right, 20 years old, less than 20k miles. Plot twist: I bought it from a guy here in Texas who sadly got flooded in the recent rains. It took on about a foot and a half of water. He's a friend and too old to ride these days so he told me "$500 and it's yours", so clearly I couldn't turn THAT shit down. Clearly I have my work cut out for me, but I'm happy to do it. Here's the thing, I've RIDDEN for 15 years, but I've never ONCE turned a wrench on a motorcycle. Plenty of cars, and I'm an HVAC mechanic by trade, so I likely have the "mechanical knowledge and skill set" to do the work that needs to be done. That said, I'm always happy to take advice. I've found the owners manual online, but CLEARLY I'm gonna need some parts, and what I DON'T see in the manual are PARTS BREAKDOWN AND PARTS NUMBERS. Curious if anyone here knows where I can find what I guess would be called the "SERVICE" manual, with breakdowns and part numbers. This was a great video btw, you made me even more excited to get mine cleaned up and on the road!

      That's a great find! Should be a fun project! Sounds like you will have the skills needed to tackle the project. The key will be cleaning every electrical connection and treating it with electrical grease. If the ECU and or tip over switch were under water you may want to replace them. There are lots of online services manual options some free some paid, I have always used the free ones, and asked my local dealer to provide part numbers I was missing they seemed happy to provide them and were always super interested in the projects. They are quite simple bikes with a simple and robust wiring harness! Good luck with the project!

      #1 Yes, it is a 2018 and #2 I replaced the clutch with an EBC clutch kit, removing the two judder springs, adding the EBC clutch pack and new springs ( a bit stronger/heavier springs). The old clutch was in new condition, so i did not replace the clutch basket. The. Judder springs help soften the engagement of the clutch. This helps keep the bike from stalling when letting out the clutch, great from new riders, not so great for trail use or more advanced riders.

    The gearing in the original Ct 70 from how HONDA is the same way. You are actually fortunate with the 125 motor, my Ct 70 is screaming at 30 mph haven’t tried a top speed run yet.

    Currently debating getting one of these. Love the looks and sounds of it but my main concern is the power difference between this and the 1100 evo? Anyone have experience on both that can chime in on the subject, does the 796 have a fair amount of steam to it or will it feel a little under powered? Current bike is a 02 Harley super glide stage one with suspension work done. Thanks

    • @TRCAdventures
      @TRCAdventures 2 місяці тому

      I have owned both, the 1100 evo, has much more power in low RPM situations (street riding) the 796 has power modes and can feel like a beginner bike in the rain and standard modes, but in sport mode it comes alive and feels as fast as the Evo, at high RPM and well above any legal street limits. The 1100 is more of a hooligan bike (it encourages you to lose your license as fast as possible, where as the 796 you will need to make the decision to put it in sport mode and turn off nanny controls before that happens. Both definitely a different experience than the super glide.....you will want to keep that too! If it were me.....I love the 1100 motor, it's not as fast as the newer motors, but in my opinion it's more fun! (Too much fun!, Is there such a thing)
